Scholarships
Scholarships presented to ALHS graduates by the Education Foundation each spring:
Shirley M. Tennyson Bartholomew – A $1,000 scholarship awarded to any ALHS graduate.
Betha Larson Music Memorial Scholarship – A $10,000 scholarship a year for four years awarded to a student who: Attends South Dakota State University and is involved in any sort of music (major, classes, or a music ensemble); or does not attend SDSU but is a music major; or does not attend SDSU but is involved in a music ensemble.
Blong Scholarship – A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a male student pursuing a degree in Education.
Jack Brill Engineering – A $5,000 scholarship a year for four years awarded to a student planning to major in engineering. The student must have a high school cumulative GPA of at least 3.75.
Jim Brill Engineering – A $4,000 scholarship awarded to a student planning to major in engineering. The student must be in the top 10% of the class.
Ivan Hargrave Memorial Scholarship – A $500 scholarship awarded to any student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Lyman K. and Deanna T. Steil Communications – A $5,000 scholarship awarded to a student planning to major in an area of communications. In addition to being in the top 20% of the class, the student must also have participated in speech activities, and show financial need.
Jerry and Alleen Tostrud Education – A $5,000 scholarship awarded to a student planning to enter the field of education. The student must be in the top 20% of the class.
LeRoy Maas – Carol Costrup Figure Skater’s – A $500 scholarship awarded to a student who has completed the criteria found on the application demonstrating his/her level of participation in the Albert Lea Figure Skater’s Club.
ALHS Alumni – A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student who is a child, grandchild or sibling of an Albert Lea High School Alumni. Must be accepted at a 2 or 4 year college or a 2 year program at a technical college
Ian Thompson – A $500 scholarship awarded to a student graduating with a GPA of 3.0 or higher majoring in Education
Kenneth and Ruth Olson – A $500 scholarship awarded to any student.
Jim Gustafson Football – A $2,000 scholarship awarded to a student who has shown exceptional commitment to high school football and who has demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship.
Nancy Skophammer Vocational – A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student planning to attend a two year vocational college pursuing a career in a vocational field.
Steil Family Industrial, Vocational & Technical – A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student planning to pursue a career in a vocational field.
Mary L. Peterson – A $500 scholarship awarded to a student who attended Sibley Elementary.
Gary and Harold Neist Wrestling – A $300 scholarship awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in wrestling as well as good sportsmanship and leadership.
Nancy Marie Neist Delger Nursing – A $300 scholarship to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA planning to pursue a career in the field of nursing.
Ryan M Moore – A $1,000 scholarship to a student who lived in the Oakwood area of Albert Lea.
Keith and Delois Fligge Family Communications Scholarship – A $1,000 to a student planning to pursue a career in the mass communications field.
Dale S. Hanson Economics, Business, Philosophy Scholarship – A $5,000 scholarship to a student planning to pursue a career in business, economics, or philosophy.
Stephanie Jill Vollum Nursing Scholarship – A $300 scholarship to a student planning to pursue a career in the field of nursing.
Mark David Paschka Scholarship – A $300 scholarship awarded to a student who has been a high school band member for at least three years.
LeRoy Maas Wrestling – A scholarship of up to $8,000, depending on number of applications, to a student who has demonstrated excellence through involvement in wrestling as well as good sportsmanship and leadership.
Jerry & Andrea Nelson Scholarship – A $5,000 scholarship awarded to a student selected by faculty without application. The student should be someone who has overcome major obstacles, faced adversity, and is not an obvious pick for other scholarships.
Orrie Jirele Memorial Scholarship – A $400 awarded to a student who has been involved in activities and community.
